When Resident Cathy Doss needed additional assistance with daily activities such as medication management, housekeeping, laundry and dressing, she turned to Wesley Palms, a community she knew had a reputation for excellent care. In 2015, she moved into the “Courtyard,” Wesley’s assisted living accommodations dedicated to residents who need extra services.

While continuing to live next to other residents who needed similar help, she was thrilled when Wesley Palms implemented a unique assisted living program, Truly Yours, around the same time the entire community underwent a dramatic renovation transforming its’ 50-year-old cottages with new mid-century modern inspired Patio Homes.

“Having the opportunity to live in a beautiful patio home and still receive all of the help I need is wonderful,” Cathy says. “While living in the Courtyard, I felt a little isolated from the rest of the community, but now, “I am very much part of it.”

Cathy’s inclusive feeling is mostly due to Truly Yours, Wesley Palms‘ customized approach to assisted living and personal services designed specifically for residents that allows them to age in place anywhere on campus, whether they live in a Patio Home or a tower apartment. Instead of moving residents who need assisted living services to specialized accommodations, Truly Yours staff will deliver the care and service they need in the privacy of their homes, wherever they are. 

“Our goal is to keep residents engaged in the vibrant community life at Wesley Palms,” said Melanie Thompson RN BSN, Director of Health Services, at Wesley Palms. “We believe residents should age in place, integrated into community activities, and dining when it is possible. 

At some assisted living communities, husbands or wives are not permitted to join their spouses who need extra care in specialized accommodations. However, at Wesley Palms, Truly Yours eliminates that roadblock because services are brought to residents in their accommodations. 

“If you live at Wesley Palms, no one knows you are receiving extra care since care comes to you,” Melanie said. “It’s an added level of privacy our residents appreciate.”

What is unique about Truly Yours is that it goes beyond basic “activities of daily living.” Any resident at Wesley Palms can request concierge-like services like arranging travel, transportation or escort services to events or doctor’s appointments. Services are billed for only those services needed or desired with different levels of plans available based on individual needs or requests.

Residents receiving Truly Yours services participate fully in all of the same social opportunities and dining experiences as those in independent living. No separate dining room or activities calendar are needed.

“Truly Yours was named as such because it is all about you,” Melanie said. “It is a customized way of meeting residents’ needs with as little disruption to their daily routines as possible. You may need extra help each day, and that is the goal, to help you with whatever you need.”
