Community Programs

As part of its mission, Episcopal Senior Communities is committed to serving elders in the greater community. Through the following programs, the Foundation serves close to 1,500 seniors, providing access to fresh, affordable produce, linking elders to social services to meet their varied needs, and combating depression and isolation through an innovative telephone program. In addition, Life Care residents contribute thousands of hours of volunteer time to help individuals and organizations.

Episcopal Senior Communities and the Episcopal Diocese of California administer a fund created to support senior service programs of the Dioceses of California, Northern California and El Camino Real. In 2007, the Fund distributed $73,000 to further the mission of serving elders through the following organizations:

AEMCH, an Episcopal ministry to nursing homes, to train volunteers--$1,000

Berkeley Food and Housing, to build service capacity to aging homeless--$1,500

Canal Alliance, to train Spanish speakers to become home care providers to seniors--$1,500

The Carmel Foundation/All Saints Episcopal Church, to help with transportation services for seniors--$2,500

The Church of Incarnation, to expand services offered to seniors by the part-time parish nurse--$5,000

Clausen House, to assist with building predevelopment costs for affordable housing--$2,500

Colusa County Senior Meals/St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, to help provide hot meals for seniors--$3,500

Community Learning Center at St. James, to assist with Aging in Place program, to allow seniors to continue living independently--$3,500

Correctional Institutions Chaplaincy of Santa Clara County, Inc. (CIC Ministries), to provide outreach to seniors incarcerated in Santa Clara County--$5,000

Eldergivers, to fund art classes and exhibits for two Oakland sites--$3,500

Epiphany Lutheran and Episcopal Church, to establish an emergency fund for seniors--$5,000

Episcopal Chaplaincy at Stanford Hospital, to increase chaplain’s hours to be able to serve more seniors in need--$1,000

Episcopal Community Services, to help extend the CHEFS program to provide the meal program for Canon Kip Senior Center--$7,500

Faith in Action/Solano County, to provide respite services to frail elders--$3,500

Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, to provide outreach and services to low-income seniors--$3,000

Holy Trinity Church in Menlo Park, for a stipend for the parish nurse to establish a Health Ministries program--$3,500

Holy Trinity Church in Richmond, to create and administer a survey to determine seniors’ needs--$3,000

Live Oak Adult Day Services, to assist with food subsidies and program supplies--$2,500

Lytton Gardens Senior Communities, to open a Senior Produce Market--$3,500

River City Community Services, to help pay for housing for seniors through rental assistance and/or motel vouchers--$3,500

San Francisco Senior Center, to expand existing services for seniors--$2,500

Senior Resources at St. Paul’s, to help with operating costs of Senior Center Without Walls--$5,000
