Job Title:  Housekeeper, Los Gatos Meadows

Full time.
Reports to: Director of Housekeeping and Assistant Supervisors

Minimum of one year experience preferred. Must be willing to work from 8:00 - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. This is a full-time, day shift position which requires standing for long periods of time, lifting, pulling and pushing. Must be able to speak and read English.

Position Summary:
Housekeeper maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of assigned resident apartments and common areas and other areas designated by Department Supervision. Assists in the Laundry when assigned duties are completed. It is required that this position be in full compliance with HIPAA.

Responsibilities:

Thoroughly cleans and sanitizes assigned resident apartments and common areas in (and around) apartment buildings weekly in accordance with their printed schedule, training, written policies and procedures, checklists and verbal instructions.

Changes out resident bed linens and towels, dresses residents' beds; brings soiled linens and towels to the Laundry.

When directed by Department Supervision, thoroughly cleans other resident apartments, common areas in (and around) apartment buildings, areas in the Medical Center, Personal Care or the Administration Building.

Picks up and delivers dry cleaning to apartment residents as required or directed.

Assists in the Housekeeping Laundry when other duties are completed, by folding laundry and keeping Housekeeping Laundry clean and sanitary.

Knowledge Requirements:

Following training, must understand and adopt basic hygiene, sanitation and infection control principles and accepted practices and must be able to maintain clean and sanitary conditions in assigned resident apartments, building common areas, etc.

Following training, must be able to successfully protect personal health and safety (and that of residents and other employees) while performing assigned cleaning
tasks and/or working with those chemicals used by the Housekeeping Department.

Must be able to perform duties in a professional manner and in the time allowed.

Must be flexible, patient, understanding and able to adapt to elderly persons in a retirement community, assisted living environment and a skilled nursing facility.
Following training, must be able to recognize potential exposures to blood and other bodily fluids and successfully protect self by taking universal precautions

Must be able (through sight I sound, smell and feel) to recognize typical physical defects in apartments and common areas and make a clear report on a Maintenance Work Order so that corrective action can be undertaken promptly and effectively.

Physical/Skill Requirements:

Without assistance, must have adequate strength, flexibility and dexterity to:

  • Push a Housekeeper’s cart up various hills and grades and maneuver cart into and out of elevators without damaging the cart or the elevator.
  • Move furniture items which weigh less than 50 pounds in order to clean under and around same.
  • Push and pull a vacuum cleaner under adequate control to avoid marking or damaging furniture or baseboard molding.
  • Sweep clean concrete patios and satisfactorily wet mop rooms with hard floors
  • Shake dirt and dust out of small throw rugs and welcome mats.
  • Remove and/or re-install shower curtains.
  • Change out bed sheets, covers, and other bed linens and covers; and, with assistance from another employee, flip twin and double bed mattresses.
  • Safely climb to the top of a 6' (or smaller) stepladder and clean, move or handle objects on high shelves at or below eye level.
  • Dust high wall and ceiling areas with an 8' long extension pole.
  • Work in a kneeling position successfully scrubbing dirt I mildew and mineral deposits off shower floor or all tile and grout and bathtubs and toilet bowls or dusting baseboards.
  • Carry soiled bed linens and towels removed from apartments to the Housekeeping Laundry.
  • Wipe down active surfaces and clean window glass, mirrors, etc.
  • Empty trash from apartments and common areas and replace the plastic liners
