Job Title:  Activities Director, Presidio Gate Apartments

Primary Purpose:
Plan, coordinate, organize, and implement activities to enhance the quality of life for resident seniors.

Job Function:

  • Plan and coordinate a monthly activity calendar which includes a variety of Activities based on the resident’s interests and abilities. Communicate programs to residents and staff via monthly calendar, bulletin board, flyers, or word of mouth.

  • Maintain bulletin boards to ensure that information posted is current and organized.

  • Create and compile the monthly activity calendar and prepare them for distribution to the residents.

  • Encourage resident participation in determining nature of activities

  • Plan and organize special events such as, but not limited to seasonal parties, cultural awareness programs, community outings and birthday parties, and others as directed by Administrator.

  • Assess each resident’s past and present leisure interests on a regular basis, and document any changes as needed.

  • Implement small group or 1:1 activities which could include exercise, reminiscing, reality awareness, socialization, and educational classes.

  • Document resident’s participation in various activities on the attendance sheet and file them as needed in the resident’s charts.

  • Drive residents to and from planned group activities in the company-owned 14-passenger van.

  • Attend periodic workshops and in-service training sessions for professional growth.

  • Develop goals and objectives for Presidio Gate Apartment’s activity program

  • Establish and maintain contacts with community organizations that provide programs and services designed for seniors (Senior centers, affiliate organizations; Lytton Gardens, Oak Center Towers, San Francisco Towers, Jennings Court, etc.)

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Administrator

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED plus either one:
  • A certificate of completion of the state approved Activity Director’s course
    or
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy, and have at least one year of experience in planning activities for the elderly.
  • Understanding and commitment to the mission of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with residents and staff.
  • Computer skills, MS Word, Excel, and e-mail
  • Be CPR certified or willing to obtain certification
  • Must be friendly, outgoing, patient, dependable, organized, flexible, and work well with seniors in small and large group settings
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects
  • Must have a California Class B Driving License (must pass DMV driving and written tests within 90 days of permanent hire date.

  • Must be insurable, with a clean DMV record, and over 18 years of age to meet company auto insurance requirements.

  • Must pass DMV physical exam
  • Must be fingerprinted
  • Must be a team player and have a strong desire to enhance the resident’s quality of life by providing meaningful activities.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members, residents and outside communities
  • Conduct job and tasks in a safe manner

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds, carry, stand, bend, squat, crawl, reach and kneel using good body mechanics for sustained periods of time.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability in order to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
