Job Title:  Housekeeping Department Supervisor, San Francisco Towers

Reports To: Housekeeping Manager

Primary Purpose: To execute San Francisco Towers housekeeping programs and procedures by training, supervising, inspecting and motivating the housekeeping staff to ensure all tasks are completed correctly and schedules are maintained with the direction from the Housekeeping Manager.

Job Performance Standards:

I. CORE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Constantly exhibits behavior as set forth in the attached Core Performance Standards.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

A. Performs all housekeeping-related tasks demonstrating service orientation to fellow staff members, residents, resident staff and suppliers. This includes filling in as needed for open housekeeping, custodial and laundry positions.

B. Works closely with and motivates Housekeeping/ Laundry/Custodian services staff to ensure work is performed properly and schedules are followed.

C. Recommends work schedules for all assigned areas which will ensure optimal efficiency and adherence to quality standards

D. Inspects common areas and periodic checks of independent apartments for cleanliness and following of safe work practices.

E. Responsible for daily assignments of housekeepers and custodians, as well as recommends assignments for overall cleanliness of the building.

F. Assists Housekeeping Manager with conducting training sessions with housekeeping/laundry/custodian personnel regularly and as scheduled on the yearly training calendar.

G. Monitors and inspects housekeeping equipment daily to ensure it is maintained in a clean condition and in good repair. Inspects housekeeping and laundry carts for cleanliness, servicability and safety on a weekly basis, in the presence of the staff person.

H. Prepares daily inspection reports addressing activities, projects and quality management assignments.

I. Maintains good public relations with all, residents, patients and staff members. Participates in resident activities and special events.

J. Tracks all orders and supplies for department.

K. In conjunction with the Housekeeping Manager interviews and recommends applicants for positions in the department.

L. Participates in Facility Emergency Plan training and fire drills; and if an emergency or disaster occurs, immediately assumes the pre-assigned emergency duties.

M. The employee shall work well under pressure; meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. The employee shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with staff, colleagues and supervisors.

N. Any other tasks as assigned by the Housekeeping Manager or Director of Facility Services.

Education & Knowledge:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to perform in all aspects of the Housekeeping and Laundry Department.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all areas of position in order to train and direct staff.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of housekeeping services experience.
  • A minimum of one (2) year of experience in a supervisory position.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead personnel.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Ability to speak on the phone, use a copy machine, printer and other equipment used in the department.

Exposure Risk:

The Housekeeping Supervisor, when performing administrative duties, is at low risk; and when performing housekeeping duties, is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:
(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the day.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Ability to relate and work with the disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with others throughout the facility.
  • Ability to interact effectively with visiting company representatives.
  • Ability to push, pull, and move heavy equipment and supplies throughout the work day, including lifting 35 pounds, following safety precautions and instructions at all times.
  • Position may require working evening, night and/or weekend hours.
  • Must complete physical examination and TB test.
  • Employment contingent upon fingerprint clearance from Department of Justice.
