Job Title:  Security Officer, San Francisco Towers

Department: Security
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Security Supervisor

Primary Purpose: Following the San Francisco Towers security policies, the Security Officer interacts appropriately with residents, guests, visitors, employees, and vendors in conjunction with security assignments. The Security Officer provides courtesy services to the residents, including the provision of transportation using the limousine. Other responsibilities include regular patrols of the community, ensuring the well being of the residents, and reporting of any mechanical problems to Maintenance.

Job Performance Standards:

I. CORE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Constantly exhibits behavior as set forth in the attached Core Performance Standards.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

A. Monitors all electronics at the lobby console. Reports any unusual activity within the Community and its environment.

B. Utilizes a checklist for vital information around the console, including the general security of the building and its environment.

C. Ensures that all egress points are secure, and lockable doors closed and locked where required. Performs regular rounds and records door checks in daily activity sheet.

D. Monitors assigned equipment status. Records deficiencies around fire extinguishers, fire exits, and lights. Knows and understands the location and purpose of the fire pump, main gas shut-off valve, boiler rooms, sprinkler sand pipes, risers, and main sprinkler shut-off valve.

E. Secures Community assets. Prevents unauthorized removal of Community property. Monitors resident, visitor and employee parking. Monitors shift changes and egress of staff. Monitors the perimeter of the Community and its environs for any activity that may impact the Community. Prevents vandalism and graffiti to exterior facade of the Community. Utilizes vigilance, and politely challenges any unknown person or persons in restricted areas of the Community.

F. Prepares forms and reports which are essential to the Department. Maintains a visitors log for all persons visiting the Community.

G. Qualifies and serves as limousine driver as assigned by supervisors or when needed. Follows department policies regarding transportation scheduling, limousine runs, transferring of disabled residents, and limousine maintenance.

H. Participates in Emergency Response Plan: Resident well being, employee well being, fire drill training, emergency response responsibilities.

I. Performs other duties as required at or related to the operation of the front desk/concierge.

J. Employee must be able to work well under pressure; meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. Employee must at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with staff, colleagues, and supervisors.

Education Requirements/Experience:

  1. Two years minimum experience with physical security/console operation and plant patrol techniques.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Some college or related life experience.
  4. Computer literacy (ability to absorb training).
  5. CPR/first aid certification (will provide training).
  6. Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  7. Fire drill certification and fire safety training (fire command station operation)
  8. Class B California driver’s license preferred and a clean DMV record for the past four years.

Exposure Risk:

The Security Officer is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  1. Must be able to cross train in all related functions.
  2. Must be able to see and hear adequately, so that the essential functions of the position can be satisfactorily performed.
  3. Must be able to speak, read and write proficiently in the English language, so that the essential functions of the position can be satisfactorily performed.
  4. Must be able to cope with the stress and responsibilities of the position.
  5. Must be able to function independently, have personal integrity, flexibility and the ability to work effectively with Residents, staff, guests, visitors and support agencies.
  6. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  7. Must be able to work with the disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the Community.
  8. Must be able to lift, push, pull, move up to fifty pounds, following safety precautions and instructions at all times.
  9. Must be able to assist with the evacuation of Residents, staff and patients within the Community.
  10. Must complete physical examination, drug screening test, and TB test.
  11. Employment contingent upon fingerprint clearance from Department of Justice.
